Barricuda’s Restaurant & Lounge has announced plans to close for good Nov. 3 after a quarter of a century in business in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The news, first reported by Westword, was posted to the establishment’s Facebook page on Friday morning. No reason for the impending closure was given. Calls made to the business went unanswered Friday afternoon.
“It’s been our pleasure to serve and be a part of the Capitol Hill community for 25 years,” the Facebook post read in part.
Situated in a strip shopping center on the east side of Ogden Street between East 10th and 11th Avenues, Barricuda’s was known in part for its late-night food service and daily brunch. The Facebook post promised “great specials during our last weekend” and teased a customer and employee appreciation party planned for Barricuda’s final night with additional details to come.
By 4 p.m. Friday, the post has more than 160 comments, with many folks sharing memories and lamenting the closing news.
“One of the first bars we went to when we moved here in 2006,” Chase Squires commented. “We’ve hung out with friends, spent Thanksgiving, and celebrated my 50th birthday here. So sad. My best to Mr. Lee and the entire staff.”
Jin Lee registered the Barricuda’s trade name in 2006, according to Colorado Secretary of State records, but in a Facebook post, management said the business has been in Capitol Hill for 25 years.
“Denver isn’t the same anymore. So many corporate-owned restaurants are stealing the life of unique and quirky Denver I grew up in. Best of luck to you guys. I wish this city could have held you longer and sustained you so much better,” Ashley Schmidt commented on the Facebook announcement.

Barricuda’s space at 1076 Ogden St. sits across the street from a former Whole Foods Market location that has been vacant since late November 2017. Permits filed recently by an architecture firm indicate the Amazon-owned grocery chain may be looking to remodel and reopen that store, according to reporting from Denver7.
The nearby Park Tavern & Restaurant underwent a major renovation in 2016 and 2017 that closed the establishment for a time before it reopened with a resigned interior and new rooftop.
