Sanford Health and Fairview Health Services said Thursday they've called off a planned merger — a business combination that would have built a Midwestern health care giant, but one that had also drawn opposition from the University of Minnesota, a key Fairview partner. Meanwhile, another big health merger is taking shape in Duluth.
