Austin gives initial OK to new kind of zoning that encourages density, affordable housing


Amid a dire housing shortage, Austin City Council on June 9 took initial action to expand what's known as the vertical mixed-use density bonus development program. That change would allow structures to surpass 60-foot height restrictions put in place by an aging land development code.
