Bill allowing control of invasive Hawaii albizia trees on neighboring properties becomes law


Legislation giving property owners in Hawaii the right to enter adjacent vacant privately owned properties in an effort to get rid of the fast-growing, invasive albizia trees became law without Gov. David Ige’s signature.

Senate Bill 464, which became Act 13 on Monday, seeks to address the problem of the fast-growing trees, which can reach 150 feet and have brittle branches prone to breakage with no warning, especially during high winds and tropical storms, blocking roads and causing power outages.
