Kroger’s $700M meal kit deal shows what’s ahead for Publix
Kroger Co. is buying a Chicago-based meal kit company in a deal that shows what's ahead for the grocery industry and Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc.
Cincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE: KR) said this past week that it will acquire Home Chef, an online meal kit company. The deal will cost $200 million initially and future earnout payments could total another $500 million over five years, reports the Cincinnati Business Courier, a sister news organization.

Members of a Gardner barbecue competition barbecue team are taking their passion for smoked meats to a new level. They're opening a barbecue supply store in Olathe that also will offer classes for backyard grillers and those wanting to up their game in competitions.

PepsiCo buys S.F.-based Bare Foods as food giants shop Bay Area for innovation
PepsiCo said Friday that it’s purchasing San Francisco-based Bare Foods Co., a maker of fruit and vegetable-based snacks, for an undisclosed sum.
After the deal closes, the maker of Bare Snacks will continue to operate independently from its San Francisco headquarters in the Presidio, with its leadership reporting to PepsiCo’s (NASDAQ: PEP) Frito-Lay North America snacks unit.
