In the wake of threats to the grocery industry from online grocery providers, Kroger Co. recently announced plans to purchase Home Chef, the nation's largest private meal-kit company.

Kroger paid $200 million for Home Chef, and it will pay an additional $500 million if Home Chef hits certain targets.

Local craft distillery Central Standard Craft Distillery will take center stage at one of the biggest events in racing this weekend.

Central Standard, the Walker's Point distillery co-owned by Evan Hughes and Pat McQuillan, will have its logo featured on a car racing in Sunday's Indianapolis 500, the biggest event in American open wheel racing. The distillery has partnered with AJ Foyt Racing and Belardi Auto Racing to put the Central Standard logo on the hood of James Davison's No. 33 car.

A long-time Winans Chocolates and Coffees location has closed.

Winans franchise owner Ben Czajka said the Winans location at the Dayton Mall closed permanently May 21. Czajka said the closure was part of a decision to “consolidate” the store with the Piqua-based chain's other Centerville-area locations on Feedwire Road and Far Hills Avenue.

“It was more of a strategic move,” he said, adding the Feedwire Road location, which opened a year ago, has been successful.

One of Phoenix's most popular restaurateurs has sold one of his most popular restaurants.

The Arizona Republic reports Aaron Chamberlin has sold his central Phoenix restaurant St. Francis. Chamberlin opened St. Francis in 2009 on Camelback Road just east of First Street across the street from Uptown Plaza. The popular restaurant is known for wood-fired dishes and seasonal ingredients.

Fine dining establishment J&G Steakhouse at the Phoenician is closing for the summer to undergo renovations ahead of its 10-year anniversary.

J&G will close June 3 and begin work on a summer-long refresh effort. The steakhouse will receive new flooring, furnishings, decor and color schemes. Other enhancements will be added to seating, outdoor patio and kitchen.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said owners declined to share the total cost of the renovations.
