Three chefs and three restaurateurs from the St. Louis area on Wednesday were named semifinalists for the 2023 James Beard Foundation Awards, the culinary world’s top prize. A St. Louis bakery and bar also received nods in their respective categories.

Trove Brewing Co. plans to take over the former King’s Buffet space, which has been vacant except for seasonal use as a Halloween Express store over the last five years.

Last year, Localis executive chef and co-owner Chris Barnum-Dann was named a semifinalist in the Best Chef category for California. This year, another local chef is a semifinalist in the same category.

One of the restaurateurs is a finalist for Best Chef in the Southeast and the other for Best New Restaurant.

The distillery and its spirit lines include nationally distributed Victor George “VG” Vodka and Fort Mose’ 1738 Bourbon, both produced at a Palm Beach Distillery.
