Fred Fields can look at a shoe and see something entirely different from what most others see. His infatuation with shoes started at a very young age, but he always hated uniformity and didn't like it when shoes didn't match the clothes.
"I call it cooking. When people ask what I do, I say I'm cooking," Fields said.
From inside the little sunroom of his apartment in Dallas, he customizes shoes belonging to professional athletes. He cannot even remember how many shoes he's done for NFL players…
