Food: Turkey lovers face challenges at the grocery store this season


The bird flu has ravaged flocks of turkeys destined to be the centerpiece of holiday dinners.

Turkey has been hard to find in the meat aisle. Now officials are warning that prices for the holiday birds are expected to be higher as a result.

The highly contagious avian influenza has killed 5.4 million turkeys in the last eight months, according to federal officials.

The USDA estimates that 2.5% of all turkeys used for consumption have been lost.
