Hawaii’s Big Island on volcano watch as earthquake swarms indicate new Kilauea eruption


The Puna district on Hawaii's Big Island was placed under a volcano watch after a crater floor collapsed at Kilauea Volcano causing dozens of small earthquakes in the volcano’s east rift zone over the past several days, prompting federal, state and local authorities to prepare for a possible eruption.

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park also closed 15,688 acres near the Puu Oo crater, including a gravel emergency access road that goes from Kalapana to the western gate at the end of Chain of Craters…
