Seattle philanthropist and community leader Alta Barer dies after battle with lung cancer


Community leader Alta J. Barer passed away in her Seattle home surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday after a long, hard battle with lung cancer.

Barer was a committed and very private philanthropist who applied her passion for the arts, education, women’s issues and politics to affecting change for more than 30 years. She was 73.
