It took Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater hundreds of millions of years to form and become the iconic, natural concert venue it is today. Origin Red Rocks, the venue’s official partner hotel, was built in less than two years.
The hotel will open to guests Friday. It is the debut location of the Origin Hotel Collection chain being developed by Mississippi company the Thrash Group, according to a news release.
The 124-room hotel, on the south end of Golden at 18485 W. Colfax Ave., is pet friendly and offers complimentary bike storage. While they certainly fit with the Colorado lifestyle, those features are unlikely to be the first things that pique the interest of potential travelers.
The hotel will offer a $15 round-trip shuttle to Red Rocks on show nights, according to a news release. Outside of those times, the shuttle service will provide complimentary rides to destinations within a five-mile radius.
“We are honored to launch our new hotel brand in a town as special as Golden, Colorado,” Thrash Group partner Walker Thrash said in a statement. “We not only look forward to providing our guests with special access to Red Rocks, but also to all of the amazing outdoor pursuits available in the town.”
The four-story hotel is nestled in the mixed-used Gateway Village development, a product of Denver-based Northstar Commercial Partners. It’s roughly 3 miles from the Red Rocks box office and less than 2.5 miles from the Golden light rail stop.
Red Rocks has never had an official hotel partner before. Denver Arts & Venues, the city department that manages the park, put out a request for proposals earlier this year to find a hotel it could team with, according to department spokesman Josh Lenz.
It’s part of a handful of new deals involving the park that have been struck this year. Denver-based Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey is Red Rocks’ official whiskey, and Fort Collin’s New Belgium Brewing Co. is the official craft beer sponsor. Coke is the official soft drink, Lenz said.
“There is definitely some alignment with this partnership,” Lenz said of Origin. “Their location is just down the road. They are an experiential brand. There is some synergy with the concert attendees and the demographics of the hotel.”
Lenz did not have financial specifics of the partnership Tuesday, but said the deal is in place for five years.
“The team at Origin has been a thoughtful and creative partner since the beginning, and we’re thrilled to finally have a place our guests can call home after a night at Red Rocks,” Brian Kitts, of Denver Arts & Venues, said in a statement.

The Origin team is at work building its next two locations: one in Lexington, Ky., and another in Raleigh, N.C. It plans to hold a dual ground-breaking ceremony this week on its second metro area location — in the redeveloping Downtown Westminster project — along with the Alamo Drafthouse that is going in there.
The three hotels will all either open later this year or in 2019, according to a news release.
Origin Red Rocks will be home to Nomad Taqueria & Beer Garden. There will be 20 beers on tap. The restaurant will cater meetings and events held in the hotel’s combined 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, the release said.
