Charles Scharf is leaving New York-based BNY Mellon to take the long-vacant top job at Wells Fargo & Co. as of Oct. 21, CNBC reported on Friday.
San Francisco-based Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) — the third-largest bank in Central Florida — has been searching for a CEO since Tim Sloan resigned the post in March. Allen Parker, general counsel, has served as interim CEO and will continue until Scharf’s start.
Scharf will continue to be located in New York.
