Longtime BBVA global chairman to retire, successor named


BBVA will soon have a new global chairman.

The board of directors of the banking group, which includes Birmingham's BBVA Compass, has approved the succession plan for its global chairman.

The banking group’s CEO Carlos Torres Vila will succeed current chairman Francisco González when he vacates his position on Dec. 31. The board’s appointments committee and Vila will address the selection of a new CEO during the fourth quarter.
