Opioid overdoses killed 1,884 North Carolinians last year, prompting continuing efforts to stem a growing national epidemic. While the results of those efforts this year have yet to be quantified, early reports show while there’s plenty of work left to be done, that work is making a difference.
According to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, preliminary data from the first quarter of 2018 showed a decrease in death and emergency department visits from the last quarter of 2017.
