A breakout apparel brand opens a Portland retail store and public workshop (Photos)


Looptworks, one of Oregon's breakout apparel brands, is opening its first store and public studio.

The Portland-based company makes new products out of discarded material, such as duffel bags out of old airline seats.

Scott Hamlin, who founded the company in 2009, expects to quadruple top-line revenue this year, thanks to the growing acceptance of "upcycling" and deals with the NBA, numerous airlines and the University of Oregon.
