Area nature trail receives an upgrade thanks to Holcim Ravena’s special projects team volunteers


On Oct. 7, 1995, a crowd almost 400 strong gathered to celebrate the dedication of the new Deer Mountain Nature Trail — 4.5 miles of walking paths carved carefully through 170 acres of untouched wetlands owned by what was then known as the Blue Circle Ravena cement plant.

Employees past and current, their families, volunteers, local community members and elected officials were all on hand to attend the event, which coincided with the plant’s first open house, according to the fall 1995 edition…
