Barbecue restaurant Freedmen’s to close in historic building ahead of new development


With construction in the offing on a student-housing building that would have surrounded it, the owner of acclaimed West Campus barbecue eatery Freedmen's has decided to close.

Cuatro Kowalski is shuttering the restaurant at 2402 San Gabriel St. on Aug. 31 after more than five years in business, according to a Tuesday announcement.
