Barefruit Bar closes after Department of Health inspection finds ‘extensive’ roach problem


Barefruit Bar on Maui has closed after a Department of Health inspection revealed what it called an “extensive pest infestation” last week.

In a release issued Tuesday, DOH said that about “35-40 live roaches were seen on food contact surfaces, including a cutting board, utensil storage bin and dish drying rack.” Roaches also were found throughout the establishment on walls, shelves, a cooler, in fruit storage bins, near kitchen equipment and on the floor.
