Bay Area personal lending startup files plans to go public


Oportun Financial Corp., a startup that targets its financial services at people with little or no credit, filed plans for a $50 million IPO on Wednesday.

The San Carlos-based company, once known as Progress Financial or Progreso Financiero, showed that its revenue grew to $497.6 million in 2018 from $360.9 million in 2017.

It posted a profit of $123.4 million last year, compared to a loss of about $10.2 million the year before.
