Standing in line at Starbucks as I do almost every morning I’m fascinated by the combinations of drinks that are ordered.

I’m impressed that the baristas behind the counter seem to immediately decipher the coffee code and create consumable drinks in short order.

Today, as the signs on the doors of 8,000 Starbucks nationwide proclaim, the orders will stop for four hours as Starbucks tackles a more complicated issue: racial bias.

It’s been called the most important meal of the day. And it’s used as an occasion for North Texas businesspeople to catch up, exchange tips and make deals.

Dallas boasts dozens of breakfast and coffee spots, ranging from the casual hangout to the upscale hotel restaurant. Cuisines vary, too. Visitors to Malai Kitchen can get a taste of Southeast Asian cuisine, while diners at Ellen’s will get southern cooking.

After uproar last month over the arrest of two black men waiting for a friend in a Philadelphia Starbucks, the entire company – 8,000 U.S. stores – will close this afternoon for racial bias training. While Starbucks is certainly the most prevalent coffee shop in the area, Jacksonville boasts a host of third-wave coffee roasters and cafes that are worth trying. Black Sheep Restaurant Group’s newest venture, Bellwether, is not quite a year old yet, but already expanding its programming. Lunch came first, followed by happy hour. In September 2017 the restaurant launched dinner service.

Now, Bellwether is launching a new program: office catering boxes.

“It's something we did at Black Sheep. Since we came downtown, we've had even more requests for office lunches,” Black Sheep managing partner Alan DeVault said. “I think in the mindset of downtown, we're…

Gardening is an age-old activity that’s back on trend as more people focus on wellness and recognize the multiple physical and mental benefits of growing their own food.

“A lot of things are going on with wellness as it applies to our food culture,” said Helen Lundell, a senior consultant with The Hartman Group Inc., a company that studies food trends. “The essential theme is that consumers are moving toward natural foods. First and foremost is the absence of pesticides and chemicals used in…

The Pioneer Press reports on the announcement by Ward 6, which had opened in 2012 as one of the earliest arrivals in wave of new food-and-drink businesses on the street.

In a Facebook announcement, owner Bob Parker said that the restaurant had been struggling for a while. The restaurant's last day will be June 3.

Eater Minneapolis, meanwhile, reports…
