Hawaii bakeries are partnering with The Salvation Army on National Donut Day to mark 101 years since the nonprofit’s Donut Lassies program first began serving donuts to soldiers on the front lines of WWI in France in 1917.

Regal Bakery’s two Oahu locations, Daylight Donuts’ Lihue location, and Krispy Kreme’s Kahului location will give one free donut to customers on June 1, and a percentage of sales of additional donuts will go to The Salvation Army.

New York is top in the U.S. in terms of its residents leaving for other states.

In 2015, New York had a population of 19.5 million. By 2016 (the latest year available), it shrank to about 19.3 million, resulting in a net drop of 186,000 people.

The brewers at Great Notion Brewing were fired up in early April when they started producing their first batches out of their expanded brewing location in Northwest Portland.

Vein at Kakaako is the latest restaurant expected to open at Kamehameha Schools’ shopping and dining complex, Salt at our Kakaako.
