Healthier eating is coming to downtown Cincinnati as longtime friends and local entrepreneurs plan to open a vegan-focused restaurant along East Court Street.

Shandon Benjamin-Fox has fond memories of growing up in Jacksonville and spending time in her grandmother’s kitchen learning how to cook soul food – everything from collard greens and fried chicken to sweet potato pies and Southern pound cakes. It was hard to imagine how violinist Tessa Lark could top her impressive performance of Michael Torke’s “Sky,” a violin concerto he wrote for her, in her Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra debut Aug. 26. But for an encore, she dazzled even more with an improvisation that she had just invented. Based on a theme from a sonata by Belgian violin legend Eugène Ysaÿe, it was a showstopper full of technical feats and bluegrass licks. She called it “Ysaÿe Shuffle.”

The King of Prussia location will mark Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar's first Pennsylvania location. In other area restaurant news, vegan and vegetarian fast-casual chain Greens and Grains is working on a plan to re-enter Philadelphia and expand across the region.

Owner Mariana Lia said the customer response has been strong and immediate.

The seafood eatery is the latest restaurant to announce plans for a location in Goodyear's growing downtown area, which includes a new class A office building, the new city hall and library and other retailers.

The beloved beer and wing joint would have been redeveloped, but plans changed amid a challenging environment for new commercial real estate projects.
