Piedmont's parent, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, began pursuing approval for a 64-bed hospital in 2004. It sparked a battle over which health-care provider would ultimately be selected to build Fort Mill’s first hospital, eventually reaching the South Carolina Supreme Court.
