Cigna’s longtime regional exec departs for competitor


A longtime Cigna Corp. executive has left for a rival health insurance giant.

Monica Schmude, most recently Mid-Atlantic market president for Cigna (NYSE: CI), has been appointed president of Anthem Health Plans of Virginia Inc., the company announced Wednesday.

Schmude started in the position Monday, succeeding Jeff Ricketts, who retired in September after five years in the role and 40 with Anthem. She’s the first female to hold the position, per the company.
