Cincinnati Song Initiative reimagines niche genre of ‘art song’ for a wider audience


In the past decade, the performing arts world has been shifting to smaller venues, more intimate performances and online offerings.

“Covid sped all that up,” said Samuel Martin, founding artistic director of Cincinnati Song Initiative. “Art song is perfectly poised to fill that gap and meet that growing need. Whether it’s a massive opera company or symphony or a small art song organization, we’re all responsible for figuring out how our organizations fit into the new concert landscape.”
