Covid test developer Cepheid is cutting 625 more Silicon Valley employees


Cepheid Inc., a developer of tests for Covid-19 and other infectious diseases, is laying off 625 people in the Bay Area — and 686 statewide — as it shuts down a factory in Newark.

The Sunnyvale company plans to start its layoffs on June 20, Suraj Satpathy, its senior vice president for human resources, said in a series of letters to state employment officials. More than half of the affected workers are based at its headquarters complex, which includes a building in Santa Clara, Satpathy said.…
