Steve Sharp, from Kansas City, and Rick Stewart, from Louisville, stood near the wagering window Saturday afternoon in the Churchill Downs Racetrack infield.
One race had just ended and the next was a few minutes away. They leaned against a fence and studied the racing program, looking for their next sure bet.
So far, Stewart told me, he'd lost more than he'd won, but the Kentucky Derby experience is still worth it — if not for the bets then for the people who come out for the big race.
