Displaced by tower construction, Cain & Abel’s bar getting new home


The end is near for the original Cain & Abel's, a longtime bar near the University of Texas at Austin campus popular with students.

A residential high-rise has long been planned for the site at 2313 Rio Grande St. Now, a pending city demolition permit indicates the structure could be torn down later this month.

But KXAN News reports that the bar owners already have a new location lined up — they hope to reopen in May at 907 W. 24th St., a couple of blocks away.

Not much is known about the tower…
