East Tampa park expansion moves forward as city closes on grocery store property

Plans for a state-of-the-art park with a senior center, long a dream of East Tampa residents, took a big step forward on Tuesday.

The city of Tampa closed on the purchase of the Penny Saver Food Market Property next to Fair Oaks Park on North 34th Street, according to a release.

The 1.8-acre purchase will enable the redevelopment of Fair Oaks Park into a new, multigenerational complex that will include a senior center, recreation center, athletic field and exercise trail.
