Editorial: Keeping downtown businesses downtown is priority No. 1


An analysis of federal ZIP code data shows that downtown Boston has lost an average of 4.5 businesses for every 1,000 city residents — a faster rate than more than four-fifths of the cities we studied. It suggests there’s a widespread feeling of despair among business owners and a lack of hope that downtown will bounce back anytime soon.
