Exclusive: How Macy’s is overhauling Union Square flagship after selling nearly half its downtown real estate


Now, as the retailer waits for a buyer, it is figuring out how to run its business with a lot less space. Macy's expects the I.Magnin property to sell before the end of the year. When it does, the retailer's Geary Street footprint will drop from about 665,000 square feet of sale space to a little more than 400,000 square feet.
