Execs: BB&T, SunTrust merger signals need to ‘disrupt to thrive’


BB&T Corp. (NYSE: BBT) and SunTrust Banks Inc. (NYSE: STI) executives have big plans for building the nation's sixth-largest bank. BB&T Chief Executive Kelly King and SunTrust CEO Bill Rogers spoke to investors on a conference call this morning to provide more details on the impending "merger of equals."

BB&T is spending $28.24 billion on SunTrust, with SunTrust shareholders set to receive 1.295 shares of BB&T stock for each share they own. The deal values the combined company at $66 billion.
