Exhibition honors Cincinnati jazz legends, while aficionados ponder the future of the art form


Trombonist Marc Fields remembers reading an ad in the Sunday newspaper when he was a senior at Withrow High School. It said Cincinnati philanthropist J. Ralph Corbett was seeking African American musicians for scholarships to attend the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

“I still have the article taped in a scrapbook,” Fields said. “I went to CCM because I had a scholarship. J. Ralph Corbett was looking for African Americans to play in the symphony.”
