Fire breaks out at Watermark construction site in Tempe


Smoke could be seen for miles from a 2nd alarm fire burning near Tempe Town Lake.

The fire started around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near the Loop 202 Red Mountain and Scottsdale Road.

Firefighters say initial reports indicate the fire was caused by roofing material that ignited at a construction site on the north side of the lake.

Crews were able to contain the flames to the building under construction and prevent it from spreading to an attached parking garage.
