How hard do Americans holiday?

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) has some numbers and statistics that explain how much food we consume over Christmas and New Year's.

That's despite the reality that Christmas meals are expected to cost 16.4% more this year, averaging about $60.

Some of the numbers:

Cheese lovers will consumer 1.6 million pounds of cheese. Gruyere is the most popular flavor in the last two years.
