Foodland to close urban Honolulu store next month


Foodland Super Market Ltd., the largest locally owned grocery chain in Hawaii, plans to close its Foodland store in the Makiki section of Honolulu next month, after nearly 70 years in business at that location.

The 30,996-square-foot store at 1460 S. Beretania St. will close on June 23; all 73 employees will be offered jobs at one of the company’s 17 Foodland and Sack N Save locations on Oahu, the company said.
