Fort Lauderdale to consider plan by Beckham, soccer rival for Lockhart site


David Beckham and his MLS franchise have competition from another soccer organization to build a facility around Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

On Feb. 5, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission voted to accept unsolicited proposals from both Miami Beckham Miami LLC and FXE Futbol for the 64-acre site that includes Lockhart Stadium and part of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, city spokesman Chaz Adams said. Outside bidders will have 21 days to submit competing offers.
