Google, Xcel call off $600M data center deal


Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE: XEL) has told Minnesota regulators that it has terminated a deal with Mountain View-based Google LLC to build a large data center on Xcel land in Minnesota.

In a letter to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, Xcel said that it made the decision after Honeycrisp Power LLC (an affiliate of Google) didn't provide a notice to proceed with the project by an agreed-upon deadline.
