How a lunch between bankers led to the Belmont Savings acquisition


On July 10, Hal Tovin and Kirk Walters met for lunch in Cambridge. The two men had known each other for many years. Tovin has been a Boston banking mainstay for decades, having served as a high-ranking executive at Citizens Bank before his current job as Belmont Savings Bank’s chief operating officer. Walters had worked at multiple New England financial institutions, including briefly for Sovereign Bank, before landing at People’s United Bank, where he is currently a senior executive vice president.
