Jared Whalen, chef who trained under Jean-Robert de Cavel, dies at 44


Jared Whalen, a chef who trained under French master Jean-Robert de Cavel, died from heart failure Aug. 20. The Hamilton resident was 44.

"Chef Jared" interned with de Cavel at the acclaimed Maisonette (which closed in 2005), then was hired on after he completed his internship. He followed his mentor to Pigall's in downtown Cincinnati and later was named chef de cuisine at de Cavel's Pho Paris in Oakley.
