Jefferson Street coffee shop closes as Bongo Java ‘regroups’


Nashville coffee legend Bob Bernstein has closed his coffee shop in North Nashville, as he weighs whether to step back from the venture or bring on new partners.

The Jefferson Street Cafe opened not quite 11 months ago at the ground level of an 18-unit apartment building by up-and-coming real estate developer D.J. Wootson. He recruited Bernstein as an investor in the project, along with billionaire John Ingram. Bernstein also agreed to open a coffee shop in one of the building's two retail spaces.
