Kraft Heinz’s venture fund invests in non-animal cheese startup


Kraft Heinz Co. has some of the biggest cheese brands in its portfolio, from Velveeta to namesake Kraft products to Cracker Barrel, but now it has staked an alternative through its $100 million venture fund.

Evolv Ventures led the seed funding round for New Culture, a San Francisco-based maker of animal-free dairy cheese, Food Business News reported.

New Culture, which has yet to mark its first anniversary, raised $3.5 million. It uses fermentation instead of animals to produce dairy proteins.…
