Kroger Co. is buying a Chicago-based meal kit company in a deal that shows what's ahead for the grocery industry and Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc.
Cincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE: KR) said this past week that it will acquire Home Chef, an online meal kit company. The deal will cost $200 million initially and future earnout payments could total another $500 million over five years, reports the Cincinnati Business Courier, a sister news organization.
