Lax rule enforcement hurts nursing homes, attorney says


Major revisions to nursing home regulations took place three years back for the first time in a generation.

“It was a big overhaul of the regulations in resident protections,” said Lindsay Heckler, supervising attorney at the Center for Elder Law and Justice in Buffalo. “The major theme to this overhaul was the focus on person-centered care and putting nursing home and patient safety at the forefront.”
