When Nashville developer Jimmy Granbery was growing up, Music City was a very different town.

“We were forbidden to go to Charlotte. We could go to East, but we couldn't go west over to Charlotte Pike. It was kind of like, that's just trouble,” he said this month from a conference room at H.G. Hill Realty Co. LLC, the development firm his family has owned for over 100 years.
