McDonald’s and San Francisco lawmakers’ shared nemesis: plastic straws


McDonald's will test an alternative to plastic straws in the U.S. and introduce paper straws in more than 1,000 markets in the U.K. and Ireland, the fast-food giant announced Friday.

The plan is expected to be completed by 2019. Already, McDonald’s is experimenting with plastic-straw alternatives in its restaurants in Belgium, with more tests planned for locations in the U.S., France, Sweden, Norway and Australia later this year.
