Mexican restaurant Gringo to open downtown

Mexican restaurant Gringo will open later this year in the old Robust space at 635 Washington Ave. downtown, part of the MX District.

Chris Sommers, Gringo founder, said the restaurant will seat 125 inside and another 50 outside. It is expected to open in the fall.

Gringo in 2013 opened in the Central West End, but closed in 2016 as part of a sale to Mission Taco.

Robust Wine Bar closed in April.

Sommers also owns Pi Pizzeria.
