Oregon lawmakers take public comments on a $2 cigarette tax hike to fund Medicaid


Gov. Kate Brown today urged state lawmakers to increase the tobacco tax in Oregon to generate $346 million for the Medicaid program and combat a public health problem.

House Bill 2270, which would raise the cigarette tax by $2 per pack, is part of a six-year revenue package for the Oregon Health Plan and one of five bills related to taxes on tobacco products and e-cigarettes pending before the House Committee on Revenue.
