Our view: Housing crisis demands more than billion-dollar vows


To paraphrase an old saying: A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you are talking about real progress in addressing the Bay Area’s housing shortage.

That at least is the hope and intent of Google and Facebook. As we report in this issue’s Peninsula Structures special section and online, this week Facebook matched Google’s $1 billion pledge toward housing efforts focused primarily in an around the Peninsula with a $1 billion promise of its own.
